About the Role
The Research Scientist - Composites Chemistry & Product Innovation is a hands-on R&D role focused on supporting the synthesis and optimization of fiber sizing and coating chemistries compatible with thermoset and thermoplastic resin systems through fiberizing, prototyping, and testing. Working in a structured Stage-Gate innovation environment, this role will support innovation project from early-stage concepts to industrialization and commercialization partnering across R&D, manufacturing, sourcing, quality and marketing to deliver high-performance composite solutions used across wind energy, automotive, construction, and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Innovation & Product Development
- Support the synthesis and optimization of fiber sizing and coating chemistries compatible with thermoset and thermoplastic resin systems through fiberizing, prototyping, and testing
- Enable structure–property relationships using materials characterization techniques to generate data for project managers (surface energy/tension, mechanical testing, physicochemical analysis)
- Execute robust experimental plans (DOE, statistical analysis, data‑driven decision making) to support technical choices and trade‑offs
- Lead technical workstreams, managing priorities, resources, interfaces, and timelines within complex R&D projects
- Collaborate effectively across R&D, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and marketing
- Push through technical with a results‑oriented and solution‑focused mindset
- Document and communicate results through technical reports and presentations
- Engage with customers and represent the organization at technical forums or conferences as needed
