Purpose of the Role
As a member of the Global Hotend Team in the Technology and Capital Delivery Org, the North America Regional Hot End Leader role is the technical champion for OCF regional, the minerals, melting, analytic labs, ensuring a quality glass is being manufactured in stable operations to meet or exceed our customer expectations and sustainability strategy (energy, environment and recycle). The Regional Hotend Leader establishes and maintains accurate process standards for minerals and melting to safely, accurately, and efficiently produces glass and products that consistently meet codes, specifications, and customer requirements in the competitive cost platform under supervision of Global Hotend Leader guidance.

Job Responsibilities
Lead for Safety Excellence
  • Ensure a safe, clean and environmentally compliant work environment and building a safety culture of zero defects at regional plant visit
  • Ensure that all control plans, work instructions, and other procedures related to the technical operation of hotend identify and mitigate safety risks
  • Maintain focus on safety behavior
  • Use TPM methodologies to continue march to zero incidents
  • Adhere to and continuously improve all safety policies, procedures, and standards
Expertise on Hot End Processes
  • Experience with continuous and batch processes (i.e. glass, food, steel, automotive)
  • Experience with glass melting, various combustion processes and onsite hot work
  • Ability to control melting processes via remote and trouble analytic skill
  • Understanding glass chemistry and batch making process
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex operations including multiple products, processes and departments
  • Ability to manage projects/initiatives at multiple sites
Leading and Developing Talent
  • Creates teamwork to maximize the performance of the enterprise and the development of people, focused on building an integrated and collaborative team
  • Effectively train, assess, and develop plant hot end technical talent in the region
  • Develop technical network creating pipeline of talent for both plants and regional
  • Arrange the resources (Regional/plant) to provide process expertise when/where needed
  • Improve plant Hot End technical capabilities through knowledge transfer

Best-in-Class Processes and Standardization
  • Define standards for producing equivalent products around the world considered the Best-in-Class. These processes will provide cost performance and stability.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Innovation, Capital Delivery, Safety, TPM & other teams to define and execute standard/Best-in-Class processes
  • Lead global CPVs updating and tracking for plants performances stability
  • Lead best practice evaluation/implementation at regional plants
  • Drive effective operations and processes with a preventative and continuous improvement mindset
  • Support implementation of corrective actions and tracking with plants furnace engineers for issues
  • Analyze process data, provide feedback on performance and trends, and make recommendations to optimize performance at each regional area.
Develop and Deploy the Global Hotend Strategy
  • Deploy technical vision at regional Hot End, in support of the OCF Global TEC strategy – Operational Excellence
  • Be the Technical process expert for Hot End; assuring world class process outcomes that deliver a competitive advantage in the regions we serve
  • Utilize TPM methodology including PM analysis, linking all pillars to facilitate and deliver results
  • Identify gaps impacting primary metrics utilizing loss trees. Work with plants to develop/Implement actions consistent with TPM methodology
  • Drive benchmark productivity (NE/CE)
  • Active involvement in delivering successful launch and sustainability of special projects (i.e rebuild, expansion, hot repair)
  • Establish standardized routines and processes to ensure process management
  • Plant key metrics tracking/closure - Drive KAIs and KPIs for the Hot End
  • Improve plant efficiency measures through execution of Hot End Technical Standards
Execution of Melting Innovation & Sustainability
  • Introduce and implement energy-efficient melting technology through decarbonized minerals, melter/frontend design and melting setup in an association with carbon emission category under hotend leader guidance
  • Execute the minerals of the recycles, byproduct and decarbonized out of the conventional geological minerals platform.
  • Execute the melting innovation through advanced technologies that stretches energy intensity and melting pull rate.
  • Implement the digitalize batch and melting process incl. PdM function.
  • Execute the enables circular economy of sustainability in melting process, recycle of scrap glass, customer takeback and End of Life materials according to strategy of company
Acquire and Transfer Knowledge
  • Accumulate and record new and past knowledge from experts
  • Acquire new knowledge on analyzing lessons learned on upset and improvement
  • Analyze gaps on knowledge and request help from Innovation or other teams to launch studies for filling these gaps

  • Ensures that process and system requirements changes are communicated and coordinated with the appropriate Information Systems
  • Ensuring alignment with Commercial, Finance, Operations, Customer Fulfillment, and Innovations on key actions, manufacturing targets and projects goals

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanics, thermodynamics or glass preferred, Chemical engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others through effective communications and working relationships across diverse functional and plants
  • Skilled in upset analysis, problem solving and decision making
  • Skilled in data analysis and data driven for decision making
  • Fluid in continuous improvement methodologies and operation systems (TPM, Lean, 6 Sigma)
  • International experience is preferred
  • Ability to travel regionally/globally with 40% baseline and focus on a certain period of higher dedication as needed; will fluctuate depending on projects
