This position is structured as a 6-month contract assignment and is not guaranteed to convert to a permanent role.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Material Characterization Laboratory (MCL) Technician supports the Composites business by executing laboratory testing and characterization activities that accelerate product development and innovation. This role focuses on sample preparation, mechanical testing, data analysis, and continuous improvement of test methods. The technician works closely with project teams and contributes technical insights that support business and technology decisions.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
• Follow all laboratory safety procedures and corporate policies.
• Proactively identify and address safety concerns.
• Maintain a collaborative, safety‑first mindset.
2. LABORATORY OPERATIONS
• Prepare samples and perform testing & characterization following ASTM, ISO, and other standard methods.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and power tools safely.
• Complete testing and assigned tasks accurately and on schedule.
• Observe testing trends and document key findings.
3. TECHNICAL EXECUTION & METHOD DEVELOPMENT
• Apply scientific and engineering principles to evaluate composite material properties.
• Improve and adapt existing test methods to meet project and customer needs.
• Support development and rollout of new test methods, tools, and capabilities.
• Design custom tests to better understand composite performance.
4. COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION
• Collaborate with project team stakeholders to understand testing needs and design and execute testing plans.
• Partner with project teams to define testing needs and execute test plans.
• Deliver clear, timely test results and technical interpretations.
• Provide guidance on test method selection and data interpretation.
• Collaborate across teams and with global partners to expand testing capabilities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years of relevant industry or laboratory experience.
- Hands‑on lab experience applying science or engineering fundamentals.
- Strong data analysis, technical writing, and presentation skills.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with composite mechanical testing.
- Familiarity with ASTM and ISO test standards.
- Experience managing laboratory workflow or priorities.
- Basic CAD/drawing skills and familiarity with data systems or databases.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working across technical disciplines.
- Detail oriented with the ability to build and apply technical expertise.
- Ability to manage priorities and meet project timelines independently.
- Persistence and focus when performing repetitive or detailed work.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
- Effective collaborator in cross functional and global teams.
- Open to feedback, continuous learning, and improvement.
